2012 WSOP UPDATE
After multiple years of attending, Candice Roig was not only the 2012 Smoke Inn Series of Poker winner from Team Torano, but also the first female to ever win the tournament. The Pembrooke Pines native won herself a trip to Las Vegas for the very first time and a seat at the 2012 World Series of Poker Main Event.
Upon arrival to Las Vegas, Candice partook in some preliminary games to warm up. While her nerves were ramped up at the beginning of the main event, she soon settled in and found her groove. Donned in her Smoke Inn Hat & Torano Tee, Candice developed a commanding chip lead which led to some aggressive play on her second day. Candice worked her chip stack to almost four times her beginning chip count and played almost two full days of poker. In fact she shared the chip leader position at her table with only ten minutes left of play in day two. Unfortunately Candice got caught in a hand she could not get away from with the other chip leader at the table who out chipped her by 1000 Chips. Candice played pocket Jacks and on the flop came, J-d, 7-s, 9-s. Candice smooth checked her set of Jacks hand and her opponent made the bet after the flop. Candice fired back with an all-in raise only to be called by her opposing player who was now holding a 5-s & 6-s. On then turn, Candice caught another 7 giving her a full house and practically securing her the win and a monster chip stack going into day three. Unfortunately as the river does so many times, the highly improbable belly 8-s came giving her opponent a straight flush to Candice’s full house. Candice claims she would not have played her hand any other way.
Some of the highlights from Candice’s experience was meeting Jennifer Tilly and her favorite poker player Daniel Negreanu. Candice expressed how amazing the tournament was and how it was a bucket list experience for her. She looks forward to next year’s Smoke Inn Series of Poker and claims she will return to Vegas again whether she wins in 2013 or not. Best of luck Candice and thank you for your great representation of Smoke Inn and Torano Cigars!
